Last month I dutifully followed James into the Maritime Museum of Manteo, NC.
I think I had the most fun.
While he examined several small traditional vessels and their construction methods—
I was smitten by this portal into mid-century design—
I mean, check out these lines!
And the technology:
A difficult-to-read info panel explained the Hard Roller—Z33 is an “A” Class Hydroplane, built in the late 1960s.
There was no specific information about the white Jim Boy IV—Y-94.
Boats of this sort were raced from Manteo’s town dock into a nearby creek, circled around and return to the dock. It seems cheating, by cutting across the course, would disqualify you from winning, but not from having a blast. Just don’t do a nose-first roll or a backflip. Or maybe that was part of the fun.
Now: Have a look at these. Do you see what I see?
Is anyone else still bitter about not yet owning a jet pack?
I hope everyone is doing well, whether mid-winter or mid-summer. We’re heading north this weekend for a graveside memorial service for my father-in-law who passed in May, 2024. It’s going to be bitter cold, but we’ll all be together.
Blessings,
Lausanne
This reminded me of the song "It's The Eighties, So Where's My Rocket Pack?" from the album "Vox Humana" by Daniel Amos. I also found some interesting videos of modern-day jetpacks on youtube!
Safe travels.
