What I Did on My Summer Vacation
Greetings!
For the newcomers, I’ve been a bit scarce over the summer while scrambling to get Monstrous Manuscript ready for my developmental editor. Thankfully, I sent it off to him early this week.
Now we wait...
Not really. I have loads to do while he’s looking over the story.
Someone recently asked me, “What’s next?”
This was my response:
Manuscript returned from dev. editor by mid-November;
Weeping and gnashing of teeth;
Working through his recommendations;
Deep weeds of cleaning up the word crafting;
Professional line editor/make those changes
Beta readers/incorporate those comments
Format and proofreader
All the while: drawing maps, writing the epic Author’s Note, cover design
Oh, and I still need a title!
Publish!
Wonder if anyone will ever read it!
I hope to publish next summer. Whew. Much depends on my day job. I recently quit my staff position to return to life as an independent contractor. Currently dodging gigs, but that can’t go on forever. So, we’ll see.
Meanwhile, I’ve taken the rest of this week and the long weekend away from the manuscript—to allow my aching hands to recover, catch up on neglected chores, and dig a few more square feet of working space out of the storeroom that was supposed to have been my studio years ago.
For now, check out this drawing board. Purchased in 1989. Spent the last 12 years sitting on its side in the basement. I figured the parallel anchors would be broken by now. Nope. Still attached and running square.
The pretty green board cover was purchased in 2013. Was still in the unopened box.
That work surface looks a lot longer than the 6’8” hollow core door that it is.
Time to get to work! Maps, here we come!
