Oh Lausanne! I am so glad you are a beekeeper! We thought about it, but sadly just that. Paul, my husband, always has projects, but never managed this one. Did you know Paul Theroux is a beekeeper, in Hawaii? Keep us posted. In Mexico we have Melipona bees, without a stinger, you may have heard of them. The Maya even wrote about them--way back when--for the historian in you ): Happy travels!
It's really my husband's project. I have too many of my own. 🤪 I'm along for the ride. He's only been doing this a few years and it's 3 steps forward, 1 back. Catch a swam, have a hive abscond. The honey though is amazing and he loves doing it. This batch will bring us to 10 hives. 6 in our urban backyard. 4 out on a cattle farm 2 hours west. Goal is 50 hives on our own acreage...

Mail-ordering living critters sounds like a weird concept to begin with. Happy to hear you‘re fetching them yourself.
It's a long way to trave,l but worth it. The main thing is, if they offer the service, they might at least try to do it well.
