Love The History Quill too and like the sound of the HNS group too but not a member at the moment. Do you recommend this as currently writing first historical novel plus the group for when the time comes? Thanks xxx

Hi Claire! The HNS is a big, established organization with conferences every two years. They also have some regional chapters, a wonderful quarterly magazine, and website. I've been a member off and on for a decade. Finding a critique group via the HNS likely depends on how close you are to a regional chapter. I see HNS as a way to stay connected to the larger Hist Fic world, whereas the History Quill serves a more direct/personal role. That's been my experience so far anyway. We need all the help and connection we can get!

The History Quill has been a great resource for me as well. I tried out their beta reader service and was happy with the helpful feedback I received, which will soon be going into my first novel's final revision. All the best with your many creative projects in the new year!

I'm so glad to hear that about the History Quill's beta reader program. I'll add that to my workflow... when I get that far. LOL! I'm waiting for your big news on that final revision >> publish! of your book!

It's lovely that you have manuscripts and slides from your parents and grandparents! I'm working out my Substack plans for the new year too. I've committed to not over-commit or pin myself down to any one thing, so I can enjoy and truly experience the creative process. I'm looking forward to what you share with us in 2024, whatever that looks like.
