Now that's an adventure! This made me think about the "extreme tourism" scammer who convinced a bunch of these people to travel to places like Sudan in the midst of civil war. Yikes!
Oh, yikes! Only a year or so later, I had a temporary roommate in London who worked for some medical NGO. Her team would hike into southern Sudan from Kenya going from village to village treating this and that. They were only allowed in for 6 weeks at a time - for their own mental and physical health. Zoiks. She was a touch Dutch gal.
I was just talking about this, whether I've "aged out of spontaneity" (as That Guy From the Internet opined in a recent piece- I really like the wording).
I don't think so, but the spontaneous nature I enjoyed before, and the room for surprises, is of a different nature nowadays. I enjoy more subtle surprises, and take a lot of pleasure in the mental version of what I did all those years ago.
Agreed! I still love an adventure, but 90% of my international travel was pre-9/11, now pre-Covid, back when you were jealous when dropping someone off at the airport. Now it's, "better you than me!" Now I'd rather read, write, paint or restore an old house. Harrumph!

Aren't you glad you had this particular adventure 30 years ago?
LOL! For real. My current idea of adventure is walking the cattle dog through the old graveyard. :)

Great point. 9/11 and 2020 were landmarks for flying. If you flew before either of these, the days were a lot more carefree.
