In my current general dysfunction, one thing I have managed to do in the last three weeks is a fast read of my full manuscript—all 789 printed pages of it.
How was the cruise and also … one of the reasons why I edited using my iPad on the current WIP is that I didn’t want to panic at all the work I need to do. All those flags, oh my. I have two more passes to go once my current round of edits are done and yes, I’m writing new scenes and excising others…
Wow, your coding system is so thorough--I'm impressed! I've only occasionally managed to highlight things :-| Best of luck with your future edits and I hope you enjoy the Bahamas!
I love your color coding system and am so excited for how far you've gotten with the novel! I'm doing something similar, going through my draft to see the whole and the holes. It's arduous and necessary work. Enjoy your respite.
Do you have a method for marking your text? Or are you digital? I don't know how I could do this fully digital. I need to see things in some kind of physical scale. LOL! I'm glad to hear you're at a similar point. That means you've got a text well on it's way! Woo-hoo!
Oh, your question!! I've experimented over the years with so many methods. I've had Scrivener for years but just fully leaned into it last year as a home for all my digital files, including research. But there are always points when I have to have something tangible to hold in my hands... and to see outside of a rectangular screen. Honestly, to me, nothing beats the double-spaced, 1-inch margined, printed copy for seeing the big picture.
LOL! That's a good question. I've been developing this color system over several years. Some are pretty fixed in my process, some are more fluid, depending on what is needed. Definitely gut-based. I've done a lot of studies in the psychology of color which I suspect is closely tied to synesthesia. I can definitely tell you, red is for Yikes (continuity), blue is for authority (military), green is for go! (get'er done!) I'm not sure why research is pink - it just has been from the beginning. My little flag supply has two shades of pink and that's the color I always needed the most of at the beginning. So, sometimes psychology, sometimes just practical. Hah.
I'll let you know how the cruise goes. Not normally my scene. At least that's what I've always thought. Who knows. I might come back a true cruiser. Heh.

Hah, about that cruise... I'm about to send an update.
It sounds like you're making great headway on your manuscript. It's all very panic inducing. LOL! So endless! Just hold steady....

My system is the only way I can keep my head on straight. Hah. Now, about that cruise... stay tuned.

Same. I use Scrivener. Love it. But yeah, I need to see things a scale every so often.
So did you pick the colours guided by your synesthesia? 🤔 Either way, you have your work cut out for you. 🫣
Enjoy your cruise - I’m just a little envious. 😄
