Discover more from Long Ago & Far Away
As some of you know, my Work In Progress is a long-form historical novel. Some of you also know it’s taking a long time to write.
The good news is, I’m getting there.
Now, don’t start counting the days yet. I still need to build out the secondary character arcs, write final scenes, endure developmental and line edits, etc.
Much work yet to do!
However, in the last four months, I’ve gone from zero to three writing critique groups and I am receiving encouraging feedback.
With nail-biting and breath-holding, I am considering posting some excerpts via my newsletter/here on Substack, before the final construction and polish. Just for fun. Just to give you a taste of what I am doing.
These scenes would appear in random order where the story is concerned and so would risk spoilers. (Although, I would not likely post scenes from close to the end.)
I might also comment on aspects of the scene, such as the research, the context, the challenges of writing, etc.
So, I’m asking you, Dear Reader, would you rather I wait until the entire project is complete before posting? Or start posting excerpts now?
Let Me Interrupt Your Weekend
This is an excellent question ... sharing it with NOTES. So many possible benefits of feeding us tidbits now. Building community, seeing what people respond to ... or what they don't "get." your own reactions and new ideas as you see something in print, the motivation of polishing something for print ... looking forward to seeing what you share.
Lausanne - I don't think it would hurt to drop a random excerpt or chapter here and there. Will build intrigue. Also, depending on how you publish it, most of the folks who buy the novel would probably not be on Substack. With the exception, of course, of those of us who will have had our appetite whetted from reading the excerpts. :D
