For large periods of my life, my day job was visual arts. From 2011 to 2024, that part was shuttered while I worked in cubicle-world or intensive caregiving. During that phase, I began writing historical fiction. For me, 3 a.m. is better for writing from the living room couch than painting at a dining table.
A year ago, no longer caregiver or cubie, I dug out a tiny studio space and have been dabbling in art methods I never before had the freedom to try.
I consider fiction my priority. It is where I spend my work day. But I’m excited about my return to my first love and am eager to share what I’m learning. I have always been what Joanna Penn calls a “multi-passionate creative”. I can’t help it.
I need to decide whether to create a separate newsletter for visual art or combine it with Long Ago & Far Away.
When I sign up for a newsletter, I have expectations of what will land in my inbox.
If you are receiving this email, you signed up for historical fiction. It is your opinion I am after. I really want to get this right for you.
And so, a poll:
Of course, I’d also love your comments and wisdom if you would like to share!
Thank you!

You could always make a section of which people can unsubscribe off if they are not interested in your art? 🤔
I had several different newsletters at one point and it became too much to manage, so I combined them all (except The Library) into my main one. Now, if a post seems relevant to the main theme, I publish to all. If it's something that's very niche to that section, I just post it on the site and maybe make a Note about it or hope visitors will discover it. But it's a lot easier for me to manage all in once place. And like Diana said, people can switch off a section if they don't want a particular series of posts (e.g., I always turn off podcast emails). One stop shopping is the way to go!
